Hi,
Sorry to hear that your is no longer with you.
I am very interested to know what had killed your koi.
It doesn't seem like Koi Pox Virus infection.
Looking at your photo, the differential diagnosis would be
a) Tumour
b) External Parasite Cyst
To diagnose the disease, I will need more history from you.
1) How many koi do you have?
2) If you have more than one, does the others infected or have the same lesion?
3) How does the growth feel like? Soft or Firm
4) I hope you don't mind, any post mortem done?
Happy koi keeping.
Thank you |

Hi,
First of all, let me introduce myself.
I am Livestock Veterinarian by profession. Since I am a koi and goldfish hobbyist, so I just call myself Dr Koi. :)
As for you fish, you did mention that the others do not have the lesion which meant they are not infected. Pox Virus and Ectoparasitism is highly contagious and your others fish will get it for sure. From this, it will be classified as Non- Infectious Disease.
What you fish had is most probably malignant tumour (Cancer). However I can't confirm that without post mortem (autopsy) and send tissue sample to laboratory for pathohistology diagnosis.
Thank you. |

Dear bull lover,
Quote: 4) I hope you don't mind, any post mortem done?
means after your koi died, did you send it to the vet or fish expert to dissect it and find out the cause of death? (Like in the CSI people dissecting the corpse to investigate the cause of death)? |
