Do you have more information about Ester-C? Like what are the ingredients? Which company is selling it? Any website?

It has the same nutritional value of vit C. Normal vit C probably wont hurt your dog (in fact, your dog may love it because of the flavour!). But the non-acidic vit C would be easier to give to cats instead. Cos they foam in the mouth on contact with something very sour or bitter.

Posted: Mon Jan 09, 2006 7:15 pm    Post subject: Scholarly search about Ester-C

Source: http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/ss01/bioavailability.html
Year: 2003

Ester-CŪ: Ester-CŪ contains mainly calcium ascorbate, but also contains small amounts of the vitamin C metabolites dehydroascorbic acid (oxidized ascorbic acid), calcium threonate, and trace levels of xylonate and lyxonate. In their literature, the manufacturers state that the metabolites, especially threonate, increase the bio-availability of the vitamin C in this product and that they have performed a study in humans demonstrating the increased bioavailability of vitamin C in Ester-CŪ. This study has not been published in a peer-reviewed journal. A small published study of vitamin C bioavailability in 8 women and 1 man found no difference between Ester-CŪ and commercially available ascorbic acid tablets with respect to the absorption and excretion of vitamin C.

***Search in major scientific literature database (e.g. pubmed) also returns very little published scholarly journal articles about this product (and calcium ascorbate in general). I'm not sure how good Ester-C is anyway... however their marketing seems quite good :D

i am thinking is this Calcium Ascorbate only for those ppl or animal that hv stomuch problem, that canot consume any acid at all? cos this acid in Ascorbate Acid it not THAT acid, n its not a harmful acid.
n thie Calcium Ascorbate, will it lead to over calcium in the dog body?
because i am thinking, the Calcium Ascorbate n Ascorbate Acid will not make a difference for a healty human or dog. unless they need special care.

Azmira Lamb & Barley Formula contains Ester-CŪ in the ingredients. It also uses USDA Grade A lamb meal, whole muscle meat. Barley is a low gluten grain.

Hi. Is there any particular reason why you are giving your dog vitamin C?
The reason that I ask is that normal healthy dogs do not need vitamin C supplements because dogs are able to synthesise their own vitamin C unlike human beings.
