DOGATHON 2006….. PIRATES: ALL PAWS ON DECK!!

Hidden treasure, shipwrecks and battles at sea... when the word ‘Pirate’ comes to mind, you might imagine a man with scars, an eye patch and a wooden leg but have you ever met a bunch of four legged pirates?

On August 13th 2006, you will be able to meet them! With the theme “Pirates: All Paws on Deck!!” DOGATHON 2006 will definitely be the canine event to remember in this, Year of the Dog. Whether you are a dog owner, animal enthusiast or simply curious, this charity occasion hosts a wide range of events for all to enjoy.

Organized by the Veterinary students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University Putra Malaysia (UPM), and sponsored by Pedigree, this year’s DOGATHON promises tons of activities.

Time : 7.00 am - 1.30 pm
Venue : Bukit Ekspo of UPM, Serdang.
Theme : Pirates - All Paws on Deck.

Hey guys, just wanna let you guys know how Dogathon came about and why it is held for 9years already..

HISTORY.....

The problem of stray dogs has always been an issue in our society, but somehow it has never been properly addressed. 10 years ago, the veterinary students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine made a decision to address this social issue through an event they called DOGATHON.

DOGATHON started in 1997 as a platform in addressing the issue of Stray Dog Awareness. This was one way the society could directly, and animals, indirectly play a part in addressing this issue.

Therefore, DOGATHON was initiated as a charity drive, organized by the 3 rd year veterinary students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia . DOGATHON is held annually to raise funds in aid of 'Stray Dog Awareness' programs and assist annual activities of Zoologico Club. This year, all proceeds from Dogathon will go towards “Pro-Kasih” which is a Stray Animal Neutering Project, which will be undertaken fully by the veterinary students. Even with its serious mission, Dogathon is still a fun-filled event, giving exposure to all types of dogs and dog owners to indulge in something out of the ordinary.

The main highlight of the event is the Dogathon Race where dogs and owners are required to run for 2.0 km in the early morning coolness under the shady trees of UPM.

Every year, great games and activities for both dogs and owners have been a hallmark of each DOGATHON. And this year, we celebrate Dogathon with a pirates theme!

The Dogathon is unlike any other dog show where dogs are caged-up for the purpose of exhibition. It is an event where pedigree and non-pedigree dogs are all welcome to participate in.
