|
|
I JUZ WONDER WHY IN MALAYSIA, NEARLY 99% OF THE VET IN THE PIG FARM ARE FROM THE FEEDMILL OR THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY. THE FARMER NEVER WANT TO OWN A VET WHICH HANDLING THE FARM HEAD TO TAIL FOR THEM. MAYBE, FROM MY VIEW OF POINT THEY SELDOM TRUST A VET. THEY DO THINK THEY ONLY NEED A VET DURING A BIG OUTBREAK. OR MAYBE THE VET CANT TELL THEM WHAT THE ACTUAL PROBLEM HAPPEN WHEN SOMETHING GONE WRONG.....
I HOPE SOMEONE WHO INVOLVE IN THE PIG INDUSTRY CAN TELL ME THE ANSWER. |

Some possible hypotheses
1. Vet curiculum does not stress pigs health and management as curiculum drives them to companion animal practice
2. Graduating vets do not have confidence to work with pig farmers
3. Graduatiing vets do not want hard work
4. Farmers know vets do not have the field experience
5. There is no need of vets to be employed by farmers - their opinion
6. Since there are private vets from feedmill and animal health companies
why need to pay for a vet |

I think our pig farms do need vets.
What is important is that the vets must proof their capability and earn the trust and respect of the farm owners. May be not many vets like to stay in pig farms compare to poultry farms.
Correct me if I am wrong. |

| thanks a lot for u all sharing the opinion. i think the 1st way to gain acess to them is socialize with them. then we only can talk things with them. quite funny senario is most of the pig farmers like to drink alcohol. so i think thets why most of the girl and women not really can enter their world. i heard a word say by dr before "learn how to drink 1st before learn how to diagnose!" :) |

| Well, the reality in the world is that advertising, marketting and customer service is more important the product itself. It is sadly true even in the veterinary industry. It is really funny how social skills outweight technical skills in almost every field of veterinary medicine. Still, smooth talking will only take you so far and you still need some qualitty. |

| ha!! thats true, with the combination of the socializing and the technical skills, be sure one person can go very far. in the university we learn about all sort of things in the diseases, and most of the ppl ONLY know the way to socialize with ppl after they going out to the real world. thus, two vet with the same level of skill and experince, social skill give extra advantage to the one who own it..:) |

|

| i think the reason for not wanting to work in the swine industry can be due to the fact that a lot of us do not have the interest, that's all. Drinking and socializing skills should not be a problem or a reason why women do not want to join the swine industry because i know that some women vets can drink better than men.... |
