Owner of 25 dogs tries to save pets from death
Date: 30 June 2006
SEREMBAN: In an attempt to save his 25 dogs from Seremban Municipal Council enforcement officers, a dog owner packed 10 of them into his car and tried to drive off.
While reversing his car, he allegedly hit the motorcycle of one of the officers who had gone to his terrace house in Taman Desa Rasah early yesterday to nab the animals.
Eng Her Sun, 66, said he was just trying to save his dogs when he drove out with the animals.
However, he was unable to save 13 of his other pets from the dog shooters.
“They (the dogs) are my best friends. Is it wrong for me to keep them in my own house? Now, I have lost all my happiness,” said Eng, who was near tears.
GETAWAY BID: Eng getting into his car with several of his dogs in an attempt to drive off with them from his home at Taman Desa Rasah in Seremban yesterday.
He claimed the officers had trespassed into his home and was contemplating legal action against them.
Council president Abdul Halim Abdul Latif, however, said his officers were acting on a court order. They were accompanied by four dog shooters from the state Veterinary Services Department and two police officers.
The situation, he added, became chaotic when the dog owner turned aggressive.
He said yesterday’s operation was carried out after the owner defied a six-month grace period given to him to move the animals to another area. The council had received a court order on Dec 20 last year to cull all 25 canines in the house.
Abdul Halim said the council had no choice but to act in view of the mounting complaints received from nearby residents on the disturbance caused by, and foul stench from, the canines. |

| It is very inhumane to shoot the dogs to death in the owner's house. Very shocking news indeed. |

| Its not only inhumane for them to shoot the dogs that way, but its also dangerous!! And imagine, those shoters are from the DVS... they should know better on how to handle animals humanely. I don't understand why they cant just remove those dogs, and fine the owner. Then either ask the owner to place them in another area, or rehome those that is suitable for adoption. Why never give those dogs a chance? |

| Totally agree with you Dr Nat. Give the dogs a chance. They are innocent. Why must kill-em-all??? It is just too shocking for me to hear this news this morning on my way to work. So sad.. is this our so-called "masyarakat penyayang"? |

Both side got fault, I think? Imagine the stench and noise created by the dog. It is nothing wrong to safe the stray, but please be reasonable. Do it within your limit. If not, just creating more social problem, like in this case. If you have a platinum credit card, by all means nuy a piece of land and let them roam there. If you have financial problem, start with small scale. I 've seen people just buy lot's and lots of food and distribute to the stray. The stray will stay in the bush and jungle and only come out when food is served. I seriously think no point keep all the stray.
For the SOB law enforcer, it's true they have court warren to enter the house. Instead they should have just taken the dogs away. Shooting in an enclosed environment is insane and very dangerous to any personnel around because the missed bullet or pellet can bounce. How about hit the gas tank as one of the picture shows the kitchen. Wonder how they get license to shoot.
I think the municipal council, DVS and PDRM owe the public a satisfactory explanation. |

Definitely both sides got fault. After all, he had 6 months warning. But couldn't they come and arrest him first? Then slap him a huge fine or put him in jail? In my opinion, there's no need to kill the dogs there and then (or as punishment for the owner).
I've also seen a lot of people keeping too many dogs or cats, just because they "kesian" the strays. In the end, I think its unfair for the animals if you don't have enough time to spend some personal time for each of them. There's other ways to help animals... like feeding the strays (responsible feeding!) and neutering them, or rescuing them and finding homes for them. Or just plain supporting the local animal welfare organisations (such as SPCA), instead of depending on them to help you keep those animals. |
