I remember the days when I was in my final year of my veterinary degree in UPM. My course mates and I were all looking for jobs and keep a watchful eye on the notice board in the student's room for the latest job ads.

There were some veterinary job ads there and it changes very quickly. Some looking for farm veterinarians, some for small animal clinicians, some for product specialists to work in veterinary pharmaceutical companies, some for animal nutritionist (for animal feeds), some for resident vets in the pet shops.. and many others.

It was quite a "traditional way" of putting up the ads. Some employers scribbled on a piece of torn, scruffy paper and stapled it on the whiteboard while others painstakingly typed and printed out on colour papers. Unfortunately some ads were just too interesting or irresistible, perhaps because of the salary and other benefits, and therefore gone "missing" in a few days. For those who were a bit late, they might not even know the ad existed. Well, it is a competitive world, good things finish fast.

That was, say, about 4 years ago.

However, the truth is many of the Malaysian Vets are still going back to the student's room to look for job! Or just to look around in case they want to change their current job. This probably because it is difficult, if not almost impossible, to find a veterinary job ad in the newspaper. So it appears that the best place to look for veterinary job is still at our beloved 'student's room'.

Oh, how efficient we are...

What do you think, are we - the Malaysian veterinarians - ready for an online job ad yet? Do you think this online veterinary job ad forum is going to work? If you are one of the employers and you are looking for a small animal clinician, would you put your job ad here for FREE?

I'm just being curious... :roll:

IF I were an employer, I would post the ad for a job here (and its free too). But I'd still know I'd have to reach out in other ways too.. be it the old-fahioned way in the students' room or by word of mouth.
