Hi Dr.,
I would like to seek some advice about the topic above. Based on my reading some of the food(like legumes, barley, corn, etc) may cause Nutrient Antagonists, like enzyme inhibitors, mineral Antagonists, Vitamin Antagonists etc...
Can you advice, why the common food like that cause this and in what condition it occured?
Thanks. :D |

Don't really understand your question. But I think antagonism you mean here refer to interactions between nutrients that one nutrient has an advantage on another which may hinder the activity or benefit of the other nutrient to the body. Unless this happen in the way that it results in accumulation of certain nutrient in undesirably high levels or the process of interaction produces an undesirable metabolites that affect the animal's health, otherwise the variety of diet should be able to correct any deficiencies resulted from unavailability of certain nutrients due to this antagonism. |

Thank you Dr.
Yeah, based on the book it is the condition where certain nutrient will be harmful to the bird
So, is that mean that if we provide balance diet to our bird, this situation shouldn't occured right? :D |

Pet birds have huge variations in their diets, which you may need to do in depth research on the balance possible diet for that particular bird you keep... You may find the information is lacking as there are more things expects are yet to understand... especially if you are dealing with some not-so-popular or really-exotic species. Diets closest to the bird's natural diets are best used... And avoid few extremely palatable ingredients which the bird may eat in exclusion of others... And pay attention on certain deficiencies, e.g. vitamin A deficiency, etc. Do more research and probably one day you may contribute your research and share your idea in the forum...
Happy learning!! (and let's learn together!!) :D |
