I believe PFA stands for Pig Farming Area. But yitchee may have used this acronym for some other thing.

Yes, YitChee is correct. The PFA idea has been around for a very, very long time. In fact, I remember telling somebody from the DVS that I would retire or die before I can get to see the so-called PFA. Well, I retired from UPM. I guess the next thing that has to happen first would be for me to die!

HI!! HOW R U ALL GUY THERE?? JUZ A MSG TO OUR RESPECTED DR.HENRYT. I THINK THE GOVERMENT WILL TRY TO MAKE THINGD BETTER. TRY TO BE MORE OPTISMIC, THINGS WILL BE BETTER I BELIVE. WE HAV TO TRY TO FIGHT FOR THE PIG INDUSTRY, NOT FOR US ONLY BUT FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATION. I STILL BELIEVE WHEN PFA EXIST, THERE SHOULD BE NO MORE REASONS FOR THE GOVERMENT TO SHUT DOWN THE INDUSTRY. ALTHOUGH IT BE HEARD SINCE LONG LONG AGO, LIKE IN CHINESE POEM "ONLY HEARD THE STAIRS' SOUND,BUT DIDNT SEE ANYONE COME DOWN", I THINK WE KEEP ON FIGHT FOR IT, IT WILL APPEAR SOON. THE FUTURE ALWAYS BE BETTER. GAMBATAH!! PIG INDUSTRY IN MALAYSIA!!!! :P

The Cabinet made a decision on PFA in the 1990's.
Recently the Minister of Agriculture -says that state governments are the ones holding back the plan as they do not wish PFA in thier state.
We are not dealing with a technical issue. Waste management technology is very well developed and its costs are no more prohibitive.
If you look at the guidelines required of a PFA - how many farms will survive. It must be a new generation of farmers and entreprenaurs who are willing to take up the challenge.
1. As a quick calculation if a piece of land is 1000 acres, what is the impact of a 100 metre or a 300 meter buffer, do some calculations and you will know how much land there is left for farming
2. Look at the other conditions of the PFA - which industry has so many gudielines
3. Look at the State Pig Farming Enactments - read it through and you will understand that there are the most ill-conceived or prejudiced legislation

The PFA is a political football that has been passing back and forth between the Federal and the State governments. The amount of time, money, energy and hot air being expended on this subject is ridiculous. If land is a state matter, then no PFA can be located in any state without the consent of the State Government and no State Government would consent to a PFA being located in their state. One politician said that for a Menteri Besar to agree to allow a PFA in their state would be tantamount to committing political suicide. So we keep on talking and talking about this so-called PFA which would forever be on the drawing board. As anyone in real estate would tell you - there are three main factors to be considered when building any structure. These factors are location, location, location. Until we can settle where is the location of this PFA, everything else is just a lot of hot air. It is just like discussing wedding plans when not only the supposed bride-to-be has not agreed to marry you but that all indications are that she is never going to agree to marry you.

I share Henry's view. I am now retired after 30+ years in this industry and yet we are still talking about PFA .The next thing will happen is Henry & I will start talking of PFA up there. May be there is still a hope up there....
