hi all....
i have read the previous topic titled "Raw chicken for dog any harm?"
let say i decide to give a try on BARF and my question is
1. how can i prepare the ingredient or clean the ingredient avoid bacterial infection?
2. what ingredient is best to mix in for a silky terrier? (main purpose is to make fuzzy fur to silky)
3. may i know the best recipe for a silky terrier age is 4++ and weight 4.5 kg
4. is there any ingredient or anything that i need to be aware of before, while and after preparing and feeding my dog BARF? |

That is the tricky thing with BARF. There is no easy way to prepare the ingredient by killing the bacteria and not cooking the meat. Bacteria is made of cells, and so is meat - the only way to reach all the cells within the meat is to boil (cook) it thoroughly. Using acid like vinegar or lime juice can slightly 'disinfect' (meaning, just kill SOME bacteria, not all) the meat, just on the outside only. This is one of the main argument with BARF foods.

You'd have to consult a nutritionist for this, I'm not the right person to advice you on these. Not only must you make sure your dog has all the major nutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fat/oil, etc) but you have to make sure they have all the micronutrients needed (vitamins, minerals). And you need to make sure they have the right balance of each, right TYPE of each - and it not only depends on your dog's weight and age, but also activity and metabolism of your dog. |
