Depending on the stage of the disease, it can be cured with aggressive treatment. And normally the treatment length is very very long, and that also makes the cost of the treatment quite expensive. So, you have to be really prepared if you want to treat your cat.
Another thing you may want to note, is that this disease can be spread from cats to humans (more so for children, old people, etc)!! And similarly, in humans, it will take a long long time to cure. And trust me, the disease is not a pretty sight, in humans or in cats.

That means you not only have to be prepared on the cost and length of treatment, but also face the possibility of contracting the disease yourself. Also, you will have to keep this cat INDOORS at all times during the entire length of treatment!
In many cases, it is the ethical responsibility of the cat owner and veterinarian to have it humanely euthanised. This is especially so when the cats have the freedom to roam outdoors - and hence, pose a public health threat to the neighbourhood. |

Thanks Dr. Nat for the info.
I just lost a cat bcoz of sporo and to think that i'm going to lose another one is just so unbearable. Last two weeks, i put my KKU to sleep...forever. Memang la sedih sangat but the vet told me, if i kept him much longer it will only make him suffer. Lubang kat atas hidung dia makin besar & bernanah. About half of his nose dah tak de. Kesian sangat...nak tengok pon scary. Vet kata, bende tu gatal to the point yg sakit. Betul ke??
So lepas i pikir and vet tu pon advise, i let the vet do the PTS. Jahat tak i Dr. Nat??? i dah tak sampai hati tengok KKU kena kurung and separated from his mum. Hari2 nangis. Muka pon dah stress semacm je. But i cant help feeling guilty. Now... his mum plak. Apa i nak buat....??? |

In this case, at least you know he's not suffering. The disease, if left untreated, will only become worse. You've done the right thing, although, I must admit, its a VERY difficult thing to decide.
For his mom... same considerations as above. Decide wisely - you're not "Jahat" if you decide to end its suffering. |

| Just basic things, like prevent cats from fighting and getting open wounds. Castrating or spaying a cat will help. Keeping cats indoors also will help. And if they do get into a fight, treat their wounds. But then again, there's no 100% prevention for this. If you see a cat around your neighbourhood with this disease, its best to bring it into a vet asap. Otherwise, dont let your cat out for a while. |
