i noe...it was my own fault, for didn't study hard to get what i want...
my spm result just merely past, i got into science class at form 6 even so.
but in stpm...i did that to myself, no blaming the others...
all is too late now, but i still stay strong coz i told myself i'm still with my pets( a dog, 6 tortoise and 3 tank of fishes)
i always wanted to be a vet, since my stpm result is a mess and my entry to upm has been rejected, is there anyway i can do to get my dream job?
i heard some Drs mention doing 3 years diploma in upm, how it's like, what is the minimum requirment?do i need to pay? even though i'm poor, but i will do part-time job to get the course...
time doesn't matter, i WILL work my way to my dream. do i need to take exam in upm to get that diploma? and do i have to work as vet assitant in upm for few years then apply? can i work in zoo and apply to get vet course in upm after few years?
i heard that ministry of vet in malaysia offer a course for those after spm, and one of the centre is in muar, johor. this course offer 2 years, 1st year study and the 2nd year do practical. after that you can get a 'veterinarian certificate' and you can apply advance study in upm. is that true?
anything, PLEASE! just tell me anyway can i do to get my dream job.
i'll do anything, i mean anything!
pls help me, may god bless y'all. |

You dont have to a vet to be an animal lover...you can express
your love for animals in many ways. But if you still want to fulfill
your dream, I would suggest you to retake STPM. The diploma
thing...you should ask your vet...I dont think UPM still let in students from
the diploma stuff. You wanna be vet, you need to enter UPM.
And one more thing dude...STPM is the 2nd hardest exam in the world(as fr as I know) so be tough. Sacrifice your leisure time with books. The most important stuff...you must know when to play and when to study. Good luck buddy!!! |

Hmmm... You should read the other threads talking about this in the forum, like this one: http://www.vet.com.my/viewtopic.php?t=1723.
And for my past 4 years in DVM, I noticed they still do accept diploma students, specifically from Diploma Kesihatan Haiwan which they just shifted the latest batch to the UPM Bintulu campus. I'm not sure about other diplomas, but from the experience of a friend, he changed his course from dip in computer to dip in animal health and he didn't mind the extra years he have to take in this course. At least this could help him guarantee a place for the degree.

Hmm... If I'm not mistaken, your SPM biology, chemistry and add maths will have to be B2 and above, but I'll have to recheck that. English is a must to credit. Yes, you need to pay, since when schooling and undergraduate courses in Malaysia is free? You can apply for PTPTN, or your State scholarships, or JPA (though I won't recommend la, you'll be bonded with them for one hell of a time. Trust me, I'm taking this scholarship and currently regretting it).

Of course you need to take an exam! It's a part of the parcel in studying! If you want to work first, it's up to you. But there will be advantages in working first in the animal health industry before entering vet, since you'll have an upper hand in intergrating practicability and theory from a vet perspective later on. There's one diploma student I knew who's working currently in Zoo Negara helping out in the aviary, so why not?

Hmm... to be frank, this is my first time hearing about this. But it could be a 'veterinary assistant' certificate, since the only place I know that brings out certified vets would be UPM.
It's really up to you, if you are seriously dedicated in making your dream come true and do not mind the extra years you'll be putting your efforts in. Heck, even a coursemate of mine is 37 years old now with 2 kids and a husband in Pahang and she still pursue her dream to be a veterinary surgeon! And she's also from dip kesihatan haiwan a long time ago with hell alot of experience and networking in the animal health industry but she's one humble person!
Even if you got accepted into another course, one way would be to score high in that course for 2 semesters and apply to change into this course (plus meeting up with the TDA about your intention, but don't worry, she's a nice woman). A couple of my coursemates succeeded in doing that. Even if you're from another university, it's still possible for you to change to this course, though it's quite a long shot. Again, another coursemate of mine did this with a confrontation with the bureaucratic Bahagian Akademik! @_@.
So there, it's not impossible to enter DVM, is just that whether you have the will to pursue it? Especially with all the red tapes and the unhelpful admin staffs?
It's not much, and I'm not a qualified person to give advices on these things (better ask the clinicians or DVM graduates here!), but these things are what I've noticed that could hopefully help you.
Ganbatte! |

| Haha... STPM is no longer the 2nd hardest exam in the world, it has been downgraded from year to year, but i'd been told that it used to be THE HARDEST exam in the world! Be proud of it! |

Hello heinrich. Let me share with you something i know about this veterinary certificate course. It is a 2 years course, and as far as i know, the only place this course is being held is in Veterinary Institute,Kluang. From which i know, after completing the course,of course with high CGPA,you can further studies in IPTA.Maybe Diploma in animal health (i'm not sure!)
Actually, the purpose of this course is to train veterinary assistants so it's up to you to further studies or work.(but if i'm not mistaken, the salary is just around RM 600++)
I also heard that you will be offered with scholarship. You better check out the Veterinary service department website for further infos.
All the best,Good luck! |

Hey Varanus! :D
Sadly,i didnt manage to get into UPM with my SPM result.
Currently i'm doin form6. It's really scary to know that the chance to get into DVM is actually very small as Dr.Natasha said the intake for every year is only around 60 students, which means i have to be one of the best student all around malaysia!
However,I'm just tryin to do the best and be the best! |

That's the spirit! (instead of aiming for only qualifying results...)
Good luck! Study hard! If you need support, we're here. We've all been through it already ;) |

| Well there is always a second chance after u finish form 6. DOnt have to be sad about it. By the way you only have to be the top 60 best applicants for a place. Dont worry. |

From what I know,to be a vet,u must be really really good.No matter what path u chose to achieve your ambitions, either matrix,STPM, DKHP,A level,or SAM,the main key is be a top scorer. Not to say Unis in overseas,to get into UPM itself is equally tough.Besides that, nowadays having good results only is not good enough to guarantee a place in a vet school.
Juz a piece of my mind... |
