My 3 yr old DSLH cat was prescribed with Coatex when she was losing her fur due to hormonal imbalance. I gave her 1 capsule every alternate day for about a month (she is no longer given this supplement). The fur at the bald patches grew very nicely.
It says on the label (as much as I can remember) that Coatex is a supplement for shiny coat, and to be given one tablet daily for every 10kg weight of the pet.
I have 2 other cats - a Maine Coon, 4mths (weighs 2.2kgs) and a DLH, 7mths (weighs 3kgs)
My questions:
1. Is it safe to give Coatex to my other cats for their fur?
2. If I can five them Coatex, what will be the dosage?
3. If Coatex isn't suitable, could anyone please recommend an alternative.
Thanks. |

Dear Sya,
As far as I know, Coatex is one of the highest quality omega oil supplementation for shiny haircoat. It has a optimal ratio of most important essential fatty acids omega 6 and omega 3. This is a form of nutraceutical which is safe. The other advantage of coatex is that it comes in capsule form which helps to prevent oxidation. Most of the omega oil comes in liquid and when exposed to air, it may turn rancid.
The dosage as you know is 1 capsule/10kg/day. Therefore, 1 capsule can actually be given to 3-4cats depending on their weight. How you can separate the dosing is by using a needle and poke into the capsule and squeeze out into the food to 3-4 cats. Hope the above helps. |

VetPlus Coatex is a skin supplement and IS NOT some antibiotic or medicine that you need to have ur pet ON rigidly. But it does help a lot for pets that have hormonal loss of hair especially on the sides of their body and around the tail base. It helps in conditioning hair and skin, but it DOES not treat fungus, mange or pets diagnose with a particular skin disease.
It consists of essential oils, and should NOT be given too much unless being prescribed by the consulting veterinarian.
There are 90 oval capsules in one bottle, some cats won't like it eventhough it is mixed with its favorite food, so I would encourage to give 1 capsule alternate days or 2 to 3 days once for a 2 to 5 kg cat. |

Thanks for the explanation Dr Sa & Dr Heshmael.
Funky - I got the coztex from Dr Hasnul when it was prescribed to Blurry for loss of hair. It costs RM75 for 90 capsules. Bit expensive but her hair grew so beautifully after that. |
