hi, i'm phoebe from sandakan. i'm eighteen this year. i've wanted to be a vet for a long long time but only recently i've begun to look for details and info regarding the enrolment into vet school(quite late huh?). anyway, i'm currently awaiting my spm results to come out. in the meantime what should i do to enrol into vet school in upm?

the options i have right now is stpm, dkhp and the upm intake of 2007 spm candidates. the problem is, i dunno which is more preferential. also, i'm not familiar with what dkhp is. i've tried looking for details but sadly it isn't quite enough. plus, if i wanna enrol into upm via the diploma course, what should i do? do i have to send mails to the person in charge to show that i'm really interested or something?

i'm also aware that vet applicants usually go for volunteer jobs before they enrol. now i'm planning to volunteer at the vet clinic and the sepilok rehab centre here during the school holidays. (i'm still studying in an independant school here) is the period long enough for the faculty to consider me enrolling into vet school? do i really have to volunteer for months before enrolling?

please do reply my questions as i'm confused with what i should do now. thanx :P

you can also try matriculation in UPM or if that cant be done, i think STPM might be a better bet then!

if im not mistaken, you have to complete the DKHP course (up to 2 years) before enrolling in a vet degree course.

if i wanna try applying for matriculation, where can i apply? isn't matriculation offered to malays only? do chinese have the chance to apply? (not a racial question i hope)

actually what i knew about dkhp is that it is a course similar to stpm, only it has a period of 3 years. what i'm not sure is where can i apply for dkhp? which uni offers it? does the spm result affect my application?

let's say i have finished one of these three pre-u courses (dkhp, stpm or matriculation). can i go directly for the vet course? if i'm not successful, can i try applying again?

i heard that matriculation is also open to non-bumi (albeit at a very limited amount), perhap u can try calling UPM for more details?

Hurm...from what I know, the best way to get into the doctor of veterinary medicine program in UPM for SPM students is via "Asasi sains pertanian" program offered in UPM Serdang.It is very much similar to the Asasi sains in University Malaya and the KPM matriculation but it has a specific subject for agriculture included in the syllabus.
Other than that, you can also do the KPM matriculation,if u happen to get in since it is very limited to non-bumi.
But,usually non-bumi students will opt to do STPM cuz it is the best way for non-bumi students to get into public uni. But remember, STPM is really really damn hard!
For dkhp,it's quite hard for me to say but from what I know,UPM vet faculty has change their policy and it's very hard for post-dkhp students to get into DVM unless you are really really really good and you perform soooo well, say dean's list every semester and you manage to impress the Vet faculty dean on how interested you are with the course,then only you'd have the chance.
Some students also opt to do A level in private colleges, cuz they would have the chance to further studies in the same field overseas,but i'm not sure wether UPM accept A level students.But some vets do come from A level.
No matter what you choose,just make sure u excell with flying colours so the chance to get in would be higher and you'll have more choices and options in the future!
