We are quite interested in crossbreeding cattle for beef production. The breed in question is Simmental x KK. Do anyone have experience in this type of crossbreeding specifically for Simmental cross. We have seen the Brakmas and Charokee crossbreed and the physical appearence is good.
One more thing that interest us is about trait inheribility. For the Simmental x KK progeny what trait is more likely to be inherited. Please provide us with further reading about this topic.
Thanks. |

Dear Sahmura,
Do you intend to use the cattle for feedlots or establish cow-calf raising operations extensively? Why not just use the Brakmas? It is time consuming and risky to try and develop your own breed. You may end up having to perform caesarean sections in many of the KK crossed to Simmentals and it may not outperform existing breeds.
As for trait heretibility, there are indexes for different traits and should be available from books and stud producers. |
