| Quite frankly I am more worried about the diarrhea than the coughing. Did the diarrhea start before the Kaolin or after? Adult goats don't get diarrhea easily. You can try different antibiotics for the presumed pneumonia. Also how is he urinating? |

| Doc, the diarrhoea is still on and very smelly. The dairrhoea started before giving kaolin. Since no change in condition my friend has started injecting lincomycin. Can he give any probiotics or herbal drugs to stop the diarrhoea. Do u think the diarrhoea could be due to acidosis becos of the change of feed when the animal was imported? Please help if it is due to acidosis. thank u. |

At this stage, I think the goat needs more workup to find out what the problem really is. It is not obvious what the problems is based on your description and there likely more than meets the eye. The smelly diarrhea sounds like potential Salmonellosis so I would recommend fecal culture not only for the animal itself but also for zoonotic potential and environmental contamination.
I am trained in regular veterinary medicine and I am not comfortable recommending the use alternative therapy such herbal medicines and probiotics. I don't know if the herbal thing contains no toxic side compounds or if the bacteria is harmful and this is not even considering the fact that these remedies may not work at all.
I doubt acidosis is the diagnosis based on your descriptions. Diet change should not cause persistant diarrhea unless the new diet is harmful or wrongly balanced.
Back to the original, I think the disease is beyond the expertise for non-veterinary care and it may even be beyond non-hospitalization. If the goat is valuable enough I suggest you take it to UPM for further work up. |

Doc Thank u very much for ur advise. Anyway my friend just told me that the buck had died last night. I have told my friend to take immediate action if any other goats come down with similar symptoms.
