My cat, Jantan, got sick, vomit light green stuff on the floor (outside house as he's an outdoor cat), looked so tired, only drank water. Even his appetite went downhill. When I noticed his vomit last Saturday (Nov 3rd), first I assume probably he tried to clean-up his tummy. But after a lots of my cats died or dissapear mysteriously after got vey sick (infected by virus), I thought I should bring him to the vet fast before things got worse!

So, Monday, called the vet to get an early diagonosis. He said my cat probably a) Gastrik or b) ate something that make him vomit light green thing and lose appetite. So, got home earlier than usual. Had to find him as Jantan is a very shy cat, rarely go to me unless for food and body-rub so that means I have to find him in all possible hiding places. Luckily I found him under plant pots racks when I nearly gave up.

At the vet's office, the vet examined poor big Jantan. Check his eyes, his nose, even his gums! And, fortunate for Jantan as the vet said the flu still in early stage, no need to worry much. Fuu... So, he remind me to bring Jantan to the vet after he got better for his vaccination shot.

So, the result is, Jantan got flu, a bit fever and not healthy poo (knew this after the vet check the temperature and found the bit of poo that stuck to the termometer has a bit blood). The nice vet gave Jantan an injection to lower his temperature/fever and also 4 tablets of antibiodic, 4 tablets of something to improve his appetite and a small bottle of eye drop.

Hmmm, but I'm a bit confuse about the pay. Is it normal for all the medicines and examination to cost RM80?

Depending on what medications he gave to you. Also, each vet's charges may differ slightly. If you want details, always ask for a breakdown of what you're paying for.

Dr Nat, is there other way to feed my cat the tablets?
The common way is hold him and open his mouth and put the tablets (one by one) in the back of the mouth (like what vets always shown to me and also somewhere in this forum).
But, as my Jantan is quite big (about 30-35kg) and his teeth are long and sharp (and I have the tendency to swoon when see sharp teeth), it's a bit difficult for me to give him the tablets. Even when my mom help me to hold him. Kittens are easy but 1-plus year old male cats are harder and I'm a bit afraid (ok, a lot) he will accidently bite me.

Can I just dissolve the tablets in water? Or perhaps mix the tablets in his food (if he starts to eat, *sigh)?

Cats are hard to "trick" into eating their medication. You can try mixing with some food, like hiding it in a piece of chicken or wrap some canned food around it. But if he's not eating, then there's not much of a choice right? Dissolving it in water is not suitable, as the water then becomes really bitter. Furthermore, not all types of medicine can be diluted.

There is also a type of equipment you can buy from the clinic. Its a plastic tube thing, which helps pushes the pill into the mouth. It will save your fingers from being bitten. But then, not many people find it easy to use.

you're right, dr nat. I mix the powder of the tablet into wet food and Jantan ate it! but, for the second tablet, I think his appetitie is not normal yet as he didn't want to eat anymore and possibly he smelled that antibiodic in the food!
