Hello,
I have 2 cats who are losing their fur at an alarming rate! The weird thing is there's nothing on the skin, no redness/itchiness/apparent marks..I showed it to a vet and he said it could be a nutrition problem, but they are of a good size and eating RC-so how can this be? Could this be behavioural-licking non stop due to stress?? I have a dominant male cat(though already spayed) at home living with them as well and he pounced at them at will :? What to do-pening kepala, any ideas?
Thanks so much,

| Stress can cause some fur loss. However, you also need to rule out other possibilities like stress or fungal infection, etc. Have your vet done some tests on the skin/fur? |

Hi Doc Nat,
Thanks for your reply. Could you please tell me symptoms of a fungal infection? My babes are totally indoor-can they get this? Is it apparent to the naked eyes or I need to do a blood test. No the vet didn't do any test just examined. Thanks.

There are few types of fungal disease that could affect cats. For confirmation, usually you need to look at the hair/ skin impression under the microscope, or do a culture of the fungus. Some of the fungal disease has quite obvious signs on the skin, but it is not necessarily a confirmation of fungal infection.
Is your cat pregnant? Sometimes the stress of pregnancy can cause fur loss too. |

Hi,
I myself have faced my indoor cat(s) losing fur. Particularly around the tail.
Sadly for my Ragdoll ("POM") he died soon after as the Vet(s) I went to could not really ascertain the problem altho' lice was mentioned which could lead to a blood parasitic infection??
Similar to you, there are no signs of scabs or anything, Just clear clean patch empty of fur. It's so weird as I had administered the flea drop called "Advantage" on the recommendation of the vets but it didn't make any difference.
My cats are also indoor bound and sleep on the beds at home. :D |

| or maybe ur cats get stress coz too long cope up in a house? like my cats, they sometimes like to get inside but when I close the door, they will get sorta crazy, restless, want to get out (they are outdoor cats). |

| yup!!thats right..maybe thats one of the reason...stress.i rasa u patut bwk kucing u jalan2 during evening.i biasanyer bwk my cat jln2 waktu ptg lepas balik kejer.biler blk kg pulk mmg i bagi kebebasan sepenuhnyer tp i still monitor utk diorg punyer safety.lgpun biogically, kucing kan dah dibekalkan dengan cara tersendri utk cleanup their fur n body.bagi diaorg punyer fur tu kena sunshine ckt.u akn enjy tengok diorg bersih bulu n biasanya diorg akn tunjuk cara happy dia..wiggling bdn ats rumput.in the morning tu u letaklah diaorg kat balkoni rumah yg ader cahaya matahari.....ermmmm...kucing pun tahu boring tau..bukn kiter jer..okies...chow!!! |

| I pn ada same prob with my kitten....bulu dia gugur but not bertompok2...the vet said its time for the fur to change...from soft to mature...but until now, still ada keguguran...i dont think its fungus. is there any medicine to stop this?or any diet restriction?as for now, i feed him with iams kitten. |
