this is one of the most silly and cruel thing i have heard of in Malaysia for this year!
Pertandingan Menangkap Anjing Antara Jawatankuasa Penduduk Majlis Perbandaran Selayang
3. Tangkapan dilaksanakan tanpa menjejaskan undang-undang Kecil 10(2)(a) Undang-undang Kecil Pelesenan Anjing dan Rumah Pembiakan Anjing (Majlis Perbandaran Selayang) 2005.
4. Tangkapan hendaklah diserahkan hidup-hidup kepada urus setia pertandingan untuk pengiraan/audit. Gambar setiap ekor tangkapan juga hendaklah dikemukakan
sebagai bukti tangkapan.
5. Pertandingan akan berjalan sepanjang masa.
6. projek yang bernilai seperti ketetapan yang

apparently 1st prize is RM 15,000, 2nd is RM 13,000 and 3rd is RM 11,000!!!
there is a petition online, and pls do spare some time to voice your disapproval of such barbaric acts.
http://www.petitiononline.com/doghunt2/petition.html
they should use the money to sterilise animals (with proper subsidy from the council) or organise campaigns for owner education. if this is the best way they can think about to solve this question, i have doubts of their competence and subsequent intelligence.
the dog catcher, to win this prize money will probably also resort to stealing and perhaps intimidating responsible pet owners for their pets, on top of publicly hunting and injuring the strays in order to catch them. the majlis has also wash their hands (in terms of possible litigation) against possible harm to public or destruction of public property in case these dog catchers were to hurt or destroy anything in the process. its a free for all!
that is just giving ppl excuse to break the law and destroy public property, all i the name of upholding the law! what a joke!!! |

Good god, i have not heard of anything that stupid in a looooong time. Is this where our tax payers money goes to? 15,000 for the most dogs caught. Why the f are they so obsess with the distruction of dogs anway? havent mosquitoes and rats caused more death in the past 100 years then dogs did in the last 1000 years? WHy dont they think about that...key word being "think".
YOu are right it is a darn joke. the worst part is that it is not even funny. |

Yep, there'll be a small protest tomorrow at bout 10am concerning this dog hunt. But I'm not very sure about who organised it.
There's another one by SPCA:
Quote: On September 11th 2007 (Tuesday) at 10am, SPCA, PETPOSITIVE, ROAR and other animal welfare organisations will be gathering at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang office to hand over a memorandum to the President of MPS. The document will call for an immediate end to the competition and urge the municipal to spay/ neuter actively to control the dog overpopulation, formulate and enforce effective legislation to prevent pet owners from abandoning their pets, and embark on educational efforts to promote Responsible Pet Ownership. We invite all friends of SPCA, animal welfare groups, animal lovers from far and near and members of the media to come and show your support on this important day.
Let's unite in our stand against the inhumane treatment of stray and homeless animals.
Majlis Perbandaran Selayang,
MENARA MPS.
PERSIARAN 3, BANDAR BARU SELAYANG,
68100 BATU CAVES
For more information, please contact SPCA Public Relations officer Jacinta Johnson at the SPCA office at 42565312/ 42535179 or at 012-2881421 |

Now the WHOLE nation needs to be educated. This is one stupid, barbaric, cruel 'solution' to decrease the population of strays. Idiots. I've signed the petition and sent emails to all my contacts. If anyone has a Friendster or a Myspace, please post bulletins regarding this matter.
Now I wish Mahatma Gandhi was here and alive...
Stupid government with their stupid solutions. |

a friend of mine commented that MCA will step into the picture to resolve the issue or in his words, play the hero to, fish for votes for the coming elections. just like the pig drama in melaka. they go fishing.
i suppose he could be right? |

ok, found out about it. for anyone of you wanting to know what transpired on the fateful day, here's a first hand account:
http://cleopatrathelabrador.blogspot.com/
i think we should start council elections if instead of helping and facilitating the citizens in their area, the council choose to intimidate the very ppl the swore to protect and serve. in any civil society, we should try to be curteous and respectful of others even if they are of different creed or believe than us. |
