New technology in pig-rearing

COORDINATED efforts are being undertaken to educate farmers rearing pigs maintain good husbandry practices.
State Commerce Committee chairman Datuk Tang See Hang said most of the farmers involved in rearing pigs had been briefed to adopt a close house method where a bunker like canopy structure would be used to keep the animals.
“Our initial efforts are targeted at the farmers in Tanjung Layang and Tanjung Tumbuk where 121 farmers would be taught the know-how on building the close house by farmers from Thailand and Germany,” he said.
better concept: Tang showing the proposed canopy enclosure for rearing pigs in Tanjung Tumbuk and Tanjung Layang.
Tang said that the fellow farmers from both countries would come down soon to share the expertise in rearing animals in such confinements without polluting the immediate environment.
“We must understand that the method not only keeps the animals within a specified area but uses new technology to recycle the pig’s excrement for manure and also reduces the stench,” he said.
Tang said the farmers would collectively propose to acquire 1,119 acres of agriculture land a short distance from the current farm to be used for this coordinated effort to rear the pigs.
“We are also getting the State Veterinary Department to provide some guidelines to ensure the new methods are followed. Regulations are important to have a sense of discipline and develop the pig industry,” he said. |

1.Is it cost effective for the farmer to have a new farm set up?
2. Is the material and technology for the closed house system imported? |

| New farm set up with a proper waste treatment pond cost you a least several million ringgit. If the goverment do not come out with something conviencing that the pig farmer can operate after upgrading their facilities, they sure wont go for it. Most of the equipment are imported. Nearly 100%. More and more restriction been given to the pig farmers. Why not the goverment implies this to the cattle and goat farmers?? |
