How often should i bath my dog? Why it's not recommended to have the dog bath every day other than the skin will dry? will the dog immune system get affected if bathe every day? There're people around me that bathe their dogs every day because they want it in completely clean condition, but I told them not to bath it every day as it'll wash away their natural oil coating, and they said it's not important for dog as long as the dog is clean. Plz give advise on this issue. Tq.

i bath my dogs evey 2 weeks, almost never for my cat (regularly groomed) and if they have skin disease we bath them with medicated shampoo twice a week until resolution of skin condition.

while the dogs' skin contains many enzymes and lipids for protection, heat regulation etc ,regular bathing will sometime strip them of this protective barrier esp if the shampoo is strongly degreasing, leading to dry and flaky skin, resulting in diminished immunity against common germs.

so, my suggestion is if you want to bath your dog or cat more regularly, it might be wise to choose a shampoo that is not degreasing, perhaps something mild that you do not remove helpful substance from skin as you bath them!

it is interesting to note that dogs' skin have a different ph than that of human skin and human shampoo may not the suitable for them despite some have been using that for years on end!

i have also met some ppl who used car wash to bath their dog, causing severe skin irritation and needless to say, they paid (to me that is) for their mistake!

I use the cheapskate human shampoo. Smells nice and I use the same type of shampoo for myself too..Gentle on my head and gentle on my dog skin. Only drawback is my dog is superoily dog. I bathe her about once a fortnight and it takes so long to strip the grime off her. When u shampoo her brown greaselike thing comes off together with the shampoo.

Works fine with me and her. But I was told human shampoo is bad for dogs but i still use it cos 1L shampoo can last for about 5 washes. including me using the same shampoo (ofcourse I transfer into another container for my dog to use)

we can bathe our dogs with human shampoo? Won't it cause irritation? A long long time ago I used it on my dog and the shampoo irritates him. Since then I switched to dog shampoo.

I bathe my dogs twice a week :-)

dog shampoo is really good idea! but make sure you get a reasonably decent one, as they are many pet shampoo, thats is nothing but diluted car wash!

we have seen many ppl who buys dirt cheap dog shampoo for their mongrels, and in the end paying more to fix the problem!

HECK humans are sick..... I don't think the shampoo my dog uses is under the dirt cheap range... The price is twice my own shampoo, about twenty (ouch. lol)

I've heard of people using baby shampoo on their pets. What do you think about that, Dr Han?
