Our 2 1/2 months old kitten, BK, somehow contracted with fungus. He also had been sneezing. The fungus affected quite a bit on its legs. I took him to our regular Government Vet in Cheras for treatment last Thursday. He was treated with a jab (not sure what it was) and was given some tablets, to be taken once a day.
Saturday morning, he looked better except that he was drinking more than usual and obviously was peeing more. As he was still a bit weak, he could not walk too far out from his sandbox and kept getting his legs smeared with some of his urine. So I decided to keep watch on him and wiped his legs with some damp cloth. On the other hand, I also observed sticky sort of slime in between his toes which I wiped away. It smelled bad too. At this time also, the flaky skins had started to dry up and dropped.
Sunday morning, he was dead. His wet slimy toes were prominent. With bad smell.
I have reared cats all throughout my life and have seen all sorts of sickness but this was the first time I saw something like this.
Monday, I went back to the clinic and asked the vet who attended BK. She was also surprised by the description and could not offer explanation on the slimy smelly slime.
Anyone else ever encounter something similar? |

| To me, one of the smelliest thing that can happen is a maggot wound. But then again, your definition of smelly and mine can be totally different. Other things that could have smelled bad is a bacterial infection, yeast infection, necrotic wounds, etc. It could be anything, so unless the kitten was examined further, we'll never really know what was that. Or what was the cause of death. |

| Dr Nat, the smell wasnt a rotting smell that a wound emits, it was more of a sickly "wet" smell, you know, similar to wet fur smell but strong. The slime was prominent in between the toes with fungus...But I guess I would never know now ;-( |
