| I'm planning to vaccinate my cat at a near by pet store. The pet store owner said they got a freelance vet that comes on request. Any concern? What should I be aware of? |

Hello Linuxlah,
welcome to the forum.
my own opinion would suggest you bring your pets back to the same clinic, for reason better record keeping.. any emergency also the vet will know your cat better? |

| In my opinion it is good to establish a long term relationship with a vet. The vet clinic has a better clinical setting and record keeping system and your cat will be thoroughly checked during the visit. The vet will usually provide you other services as well like deworming, ear cleaning... And most importantly you know which doctor you should look for if there is an emergency. |

Hi Linuxlah (hmmm... sounds familiar :D ),
yes, i agree w Yeow & Dr as well. it is best to bring to a proper vet n i m not sure y wud a vet b doing freelance (money purpose?) @ petshops. Anyway, vaccination is not that expensive, so dun take risk. go to a vet.
cheers |

| Any vet can administer vaccines as long they have the license. but before they vaccinate your animals a good vet should be able to tell you against what disease the vaccine is , and he or she should examine your animals , asking question like recent health condition, stools and appetite ... and even better if temperature is taken |

From my understanding of the vet profession out there, sometimes you cant blame someone if they really want money . Frankly speaking , most of the companies in this world is profit-oriented , no matter it is just an individual or a multi national business. Sure ppl want to work for money , but not JUST for money. sorry i just stating the fact. |

perhaps some drs in here can enlighten us abt this practise. as far as i understand, a vet shud hv kept medical records on our pet n vets @ petshop don't. it is very much safer to go to the clinic rather than petshop.
btw, anyone knows any petshop that provide vaccination by freelance vets? |

| I think not all freelance vets are bad. Some do care for the animals too. But one thing is vaccination is not just a jab. It is also the time that you bring your cat to for a "medical check-up". Your vet can tell you many things that you might have overlooked... |

Our Veterinary Surgeon's Act is pretty outdated, so, its not clearly stated black and white whether this is legal or not. However, this is not encouraged, simply because it would be difficult to trace a "freelance" vet (in case of malpractice, etc). So, if you were to meet a freelance vet working in a pet shop, be sure that they have their "ANNUAL PRACTICING CERTIFICATE" (APC) and that it states clearly the address of the PET SHOP as one of the places of practice. |

I already saw the visiting vet this evening. I'm confident that he is a legit Dr by the tools and the way he explain things.
