|
|
hi there,
i'm from malacca and i'm a STPM undergraduate who is currently waiting for result and in the mean time looking up more info about vet med online..
it's just so fortunate that i found this website.. =D
Can anyone tell me more about "doing practicals overseas' as u ppl discussed about in the other forum? does it mean that it is some sort of a twinning programme or something like that?
If god willing and i got into UPM, does it mean that i have to finish my 5-yr course altogether in there?
Thanks alot! |

Dear Jianie,
While still an undergraduate, he or she is required to undergo some 'industrial training' so that he or she may get an hands on experience in practice. While some undergraduates opt to do theirs locally, there are some who opted to do theirs overseas in the destination of their choice.
In your second question, the answers is YES. As you are enrolled into UPM, you have to finish your course there to be granted the title DVM. If you wish to change universities, im afraid the onus is on you to plan for that. UPM as far as i know do not have any twinning agreement with other universities. |

| As early as 10 years ago people would laugh at you, should u want to be a vet. Or they may ask you to consider doing med insted. It is indeed heatwarming to know that nowdays there are so many people who want to BE vets. I wish all of you the best of luck. and hope if all goes well we will all be colleagues! |

| Yup jianie, the practicals are required by the university. During my time, most of the students only attend to practicals only when required, but these days i have gotten request from students from the first year! |

| Competition?? wait till after and enter vet school and get out in the real world...that can be hell too! Then there is taxes, treatment failures, and ppl unhappy with your services and so on and so forth.... Man life sucks, thank god for animals. Anyway take things as they come and always keep a sense of humor. |

Wow.. so many aspiring vets! :)
There are a handfull of practicals which are compulsory for vet students to complete during their semester breaks. And there are those students who are interested and will be willing to do extra practicals/attachments in places of their interest. During my time, a few of us did extra work in places which were not compulsory at that time, like in zoos or pig farms, etc. Basically, the choices for doing practicals are unlimited, and only limited to your own initiative. |

| Regets...I wish i went over seas to do SOME of my practicals. as it is when u get out and work and settle down, there is really not much of a chance to do just that. I think every vet student should at least once, do some form of practical work in a foreign land. Gives you a better global outlook. |

| Haha...Wondering if anyone's done Veterinary in Australia? JPA assigned me to go to Australia to study Veterinary,so I'm looking around for a good Uni there, apart from trying to find out as much as I can on how's the course there like. Hehe...Really keen on joining the Vet Community... :D |
