Police car from some of the country. Some place actually reporting a higher crime rate because of these car.

Well, I'd flash at the police if I ever see "gallardo". How many people get a chance to sit inside.

I wouldn' try kancil. You will see a lot of injured cops in high speed chase. Satria will be a better bet, especially the GTI. Actually it is all up to the coordination of the police department. They need very good communication and tactic to give a good chase. Actually don't play play with those Waja. They are pretty well equipped. From the car, can trace your car records, insurance, road tax, summons...

I always wonder, if someone mention a GTI car, what does that means? I mean, what the different between GTI and non-GTI?

GTI is the "sports model" kind of thing i think... basically more desirable because faster or something. =S

And those police cars are crazy, why spend the money on buying really expensive police cars when some of them aren't even that fast compared to what everday people manage to do after modifying their normal cars. =O

Most of these are "GIFT". Some are demo car to send in as tender for new police car.

Have you seen volvo, BMW, rexton for PDRM, Kastam, LHDN... I've even seen a Harley bike as outrider, and escorts. There are Aprilia Caponord as police bike as well but the lost the tender to honda VFR 800. So the outriders and escort will be changed from Honda CBX 750 (in-line 4) to VFR 800 (V 4). QUite nice though. There are many Bomba bike that are quite nice as well, the ST1300 Honda.

I wasn't saying that they weren't fast i just thought that maybe they wouldn't be able to catch up with many of the modified cars around which i would think they would be best suited for. Cop cars are tuned fast but that can rarely match up to some of the crazy mods the kids do these days.

From what i can see some of the cars there are:

Subaru but the WRX version which isn't an STI.
Mustang which is an American car... everyone knows they can only go in one direction... forwards, turn a corner and you have lost them.
There was a few porches and a CLS more weekend cars than speed machines.
Skyline which although is known for its power is the GTT version so would be beaten by its big brother GTR (if you own a GTR you are likely to modify it so beaten by far).

Granted these are all nice cars but their application in the police force is questionable.

Wa, got car kaki here. Seriously I can't tell from the picture if it's a STI or not or GTT and GTR (V-spec/Z-tune). Most of the cars I think are not to do high speed chase. To show off and for big shot. High speed chase relies a lot on the communication. How the center command the police to block off certain road, commanding helicopter... They are not fit to do high speed chase. Even if they can catch up or overtake the target, what can they do. Use the Gallardo to bang the target?

'GT' means Gran Turismo. The 'I' comes from the 'Injected' from fuel-injected. That means that the fuel is injected into the engine combustion chamber, rather than carburettor-fed.
Gran Tourismo means Grand Tourer is English and is actually meant to denote a car that has superior ride, interior comfort and handling - super luxury cars - for long distance driving. These days though, the meaning has become corrupted to mean a sporty model of car, regardless of how luxurious or comfortable it is in the first place.
This corruption really came about with the introduction of the Golf GTi in the 1970s. I guess compared to the base models of the Golf, it was superior but when compared to true GTs like Bentleys, it's a laughable delusion of grandeur.

Most of the fancy police cars depicted in the pictures are actually PR shots done to generate good publicity for the police as well as the car manufacturers - fantasy police cars. They are usually done for the police annual calenders or for fun posters. The police overseas - especially in Europe do open days for recruitment or just to interract with the public and these fantasy police cars are some of the crowd pullers that they use to get people interested in attending the events. Members of the public get to get their pictures taken with the cars and to sit in the cars (and make vroom! vroom! noises).

Probably the only one of all those cars which is genuine police car patrolling the highways is the Porsche 911. That's because in Germany, there is no speed limit on the autobahn and when speeds can reach over 180mph, the highway police need something that can not only keep up with but overtake the car they are chasing.

Ah ok. I didn't know that. Thought it was like in parts of England where they actually use Lotus Elise's for some of their patrol cars.
Fair enough then.

I guess if cops did modify and use the cars to catch street racers they could always go and challenge them, "i win you stop racing and your car goes to compound. you win, you get away"... hehe might work thinking about the ego most boy racers have.

These days, very few police forces get into car chases over a long distance. This is because these car chase situations can get out of hand and members of the public and innocent by-standers have been hurt and killed.
Usually what happens is that that the police will keep up with the car they are pursuing and radio details of their location. They will stay on the tail of the car until the police helicoptor comes on the scene to take over - monitor the situation from above and radio info to police forces ahead. Then the police car will fall back. The car's occupants will eventually notice that they are no longer being followed (sirens will stop, for one) and think they've outrun the police and slow down to a regular driving speed. When they least expect it, a police car will come out of no where and intercept them which usually leads to the arrest.

The police have better toys!

Ahhh so thats how it works in the real world.

Sorry for my naevity, i grew up in Sri lanka so no helicopters or anything. They would just chase like mad until the racers lost the cops. Well actually one of the racers had a police radio in his car so they would be gone from the spot they were racing at before the police got there.

So happy to see many kaki here.

Communication is very important in car chase. Like what mentioned by gus gus, collateral damage is just too high and police department will be facing lots and lots of complains, claims and lawsuit. It is not the same as what we see in movie. Flash your badge and say police need use your car. Road block is another important thing in car chase. How fast the police can set up a road block depends on how good their communication they have and how effective they are. With the cctv we have nowaday on the road, a lot of car can be traced.

Talk about car chase, I recommend you guys to play a PS 2 game, neeed for speed, carbon. A lot of high speed chase with police, helicopter and ram into road block. But I'm not impressed with the game. Just play to piss off the police in the game.
