The MAHA Exhibition (Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture & Agrotourism Show 2006) will be held on 21-26th November 2006 starting from 10AM to 10PM at MARDI, Selangor, Malaysia. VAM will participate in this event.

The Extremely Far, Tiring, and Ultimately Chaotic MAHA 2006

Oh sorry friends, I shouldn't have posted the above post. If you have been to MAHA 2006 because of that post, I sincerely apologize for that.

I been to MAHA 2006 today (25th November 2006 at 3pm) because I was on duty to take care of the Veterinary Association Malaysia (VAM) booth until 7pm. Even before I could reach MARDI, the UPM road was very congested and it took almost 1 hour just to drive from UPM entrance to MARDI! OK nevermind, a lot of people was a good thing for the exhibition right?

So finally I reached MARDI. I saw many cars parked near the roadside but I was very confused where was the exhibition. There was no big banner saying "Welcome to MAHA" or something like that. All I saw were quite a number of "traffic policemen" asking people not to drive into MARDI because it was reserved for the VIP and VVIP. Fine, I though I was lucky to get a parking somewhere near the entrance beside the road. I started to walk towards the MARDI entrance and then...

15 minutes later (still walking), I saw lots of people walking in the same direction like me so I thought the MAHA shouldn't be very far then...

30 minutes later (still walking, starting to sweat). I started to wonder where was MAHA? The Makcik (senior woman) walking behind me was starting to pant. Finally I saw someone. Asking the not-so-friendly "policeman" there and he frowned and said to me "look there, can you see the white tent? It is somewhere there!"

Wow! That was very very far. It was on the top of the Mountain as far as I can see! I was slightly startled and not sure whether I should continue to walk. And there was this senior Pakcik (uncle) walking towards me and said "Dik, jauhnya, dia cakap kena jalan 30 minit baru boleh sampai.."

OK fine. For the sake of keeping up with my promise to take care of the VAM booth, I decided to walk.

After another 20 minutes walk. Voila I finally reached the top of the mountain! (The Makcik behind me was unable to walk anymore, she sat beside the road to rest). But then.. It was flooded, it was muddy and no sign board. Dewan A, Dewan B, C, D, E... No friendly info counter, absolutely nothing helpful.

I was baffled and called up Dr Vincent. Guess what, after all the long walk, I was at the wrong place! I have to go to Pintu 3. So where is this Pintu 3? Oh, it is 3KM away. How to go there? Take a bus. Sounds easy right? But then when I looked at the people chaotically "fighting" to get into the small little bus that was packed with people - among them were the little kids and some very senior Makcik (grandmas) - I just don't have the heart to compete with them.

....

I walked for another 10 minutes on the muddy road and I finally have enough of that. I decided to walk back, called Dr Vincent again telling him I was unable to take care of the booth. He said "no problem".

It took at least another 30 minutes to walk back to my car. Up and down the hills. I was tired and disapointed.

Oh, MAHA 2006!

Think again if you really want to go there!

The other people who said they've been to MAHA didnt tell me anything about the chaotic jam and the endless walking! They just told me there was a lot of people and that the exhibition was very big, the place was just built. Some of them enjoyed it.

I didn't go though. Don't like the hassle of the crowds. :)
