My dog, Winter, has been showing extreme aggressiveness towards other dogs. Yesterday, I have even tried introducing Winter to my friend's dog, Hera, a Great Dane mixed. Hera is 3 times bigger than Winter. But whenever we get close, Winter will try to bite Hera's head off! :( Lucky Hera is a very gentle dog.

I love going to doggie events and would love to be able to bring Winter, but not with her aggressive behaviour. I wonder if there is any special training that I can bring her too that could help with this behaviour.

Thanks! I think the main cause of the problem is Winter was attacked by a group of strays when she was just about 4 months old. It was very traumatic and took her weeks to completely recovered. Then I was to blame for never socializing her with other dogs since she was a puppy. She was probably just being defensive and protective.

I am trying to look for a muzzle that fits. Bought one last time but didnt fit so gotta return it. Will look for it this weekend.

I know this will take a lot of time and patience. It wont be easy as she is already 5 years old now. I just want to try to see whether she can overcome her aggressiveness towards dogs.

Dog aggression has already been discussed here: http://www.vet.com.my/viewtopic.php?t=916

I find this site has some very useful information
http://www.k9aggression.com/

Firstly, you need to classify why your dog is acting aggresssively. Sometimes, it is a show of dominance, but it could also be fear, etc. Anyway, the website has useful info on how to classify your dog's aggression. After classifying it, then you can proceed to treat that aggression. Remember, there is no ONE way to treat it. Nevertheless, patience is what you need to train her up! :)

I have been doing some research. i think Winter is under the 'Fear Aggression' category. I cant be completely sure but I suspect its because she was once attacked by a pack of strays when she was young. Then again, she is also a dominant dog.

It is not easy to find a friendly dog with an owner that is willing to help. My friend has offered to help with Winter, using her dog, Hera. I am gonna cook some sausages as a treat for Winter when she behaves in Hera's presence. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Dr csh, Winter knows fetch, sit, down and stay (rather impatiently). She only gets her treats when she perform those tricks. Otherwise no treats. Inside the house, she is obedient and listen to you. But when she is outside or in the presence of another dog, she goes crazy! Maybe she feels that she need to protect her family. I dunno.

Dr Dunker, I do not know what breed is Winter. She was a stray puppy i adopted. She was spayed when she was about 6 months old. She used to have a sister that she always bullied but her sister passed away about 2 years back. Below is a picture of Winter.
