Dear Drs,
Please help. My father-in-law's magpie is having severe conjunctivitis. The eyes are swollen and one of it has already "sealed". The poor bird has lost its appetite. Can this be treated? |

| Conjunctivitis can be treated but is harder in viral cases as it largely relies on the host ability to fight against the viral infection. However, one must make sure this is a case of conjunctivitis (what I mean here is localised infection, and it usually involved one/both eyes without other clinical signs)... Other disease complexes may include conjunctivitis as one of its clinical manifestation, like a severe upper respiratory tract infection, vitamin A deficiency. Please get your vet to check on the bird for instance action and proper treatment, as when the bird lost its appetite, this may indicate the worsening of the condition. |
