Kindly reply ASAP.
My puppy vomited half an hour after her dinner today. She had her usual food. After vomiting out all the food she had, she start vomiting out white liquid (guess her stomach is empty). She vomited 3 times within an hour.
She is now weak. Just lying down. She is not herself. She started taking heartworm tablet end of Sept 06.
Her details:
Name : Ferline
Breed : Poodle
D.O.B : 19 Jan 2006
Sex : Female
Kindly advice. Thanks. |

| based on her dob, ferline would have completed her puppy shots (usually 3 shots, 1 month apart each). if she had already received the shots, you can rest much easier (cause she is protected from the most common infectious diseases). nevertheless, i do urge you to consult your vet as sometimes acute episodes of multiple vomition can deplete her some basic metabolites (sodium, potassium, chloride etc) and cause more uncessary distress to ferline. |

Hi there,
Dr Nat has provided some useful advise on a similar problem to a forumer:
Dr Nat wrote:
A vet sees it (vomition) this way:
When a dog suddenly vomits (its called acute vomiting), it can be due to
1. Dietary indiscretion - e.g. change of food (not so serious)
2. Toxicity/Poisoning - accidentl ingestion of any poisonous material (very serious)
3. Internal parasites - round worms, tape worms, protozoa, etc (some can be quite serious)
4. Obstruction/GDV - caused by swallowing foreign objects, or too much jumping/exercising after eating (extremely serious)
5. Infection/gastroenteritis - esp. parvovirus, coronavirus (can be serious)
6. Gastric ulcers (will get serious later)
7. Metabolic disorders - kidney disease, liver disease, etc (too many disease to list here, some are very serious)
8. Tumour/growth/inflammation in the brain
9. Other disorders - pancreatitis, irritable bowel syndrome, pyometra, peritonitis, urinary obstruction, and many many more
There are so many causes to vomiting (if its really vomiting, must differentiate from regurgitation or nausea), these listed here are only some of the possibilities. Some of the conditions are VERY serious, some are not so. It is impossible to diagnose without having a look at your dog. If this still continues, do not wait until Saturday, please see a vet as soon as possible.

Usually if vomiting once or twice in a day, is considered as mild, and is not always an urgent matter.
However, in your case, vomiting 3 times in an hour is considered a lot. Furthermore, she's still a puppy, her body size is small. And you've also mentioned that she's weak now. All these are symptoms that would sound an alarm! Yes, your dog may need emergency treatment rigth away. Especially to balance up the fluid loss and maintain the metabolite imbalance (as mentioned by Dr Han). DO NOT WAIT ANY FURTHER, BRING HER TO SEEK TREATMENT RIGHT AWAY! |
