We have 2 cats one male (7 yrs) & one female (3 yrs) & currently residing in Holland. Plan to move back to Melaka before end of year & would like to bring them with us, of course. Have glanced through the rules & regulations on the sites for those purposes but not sure about the quarantine period. The older cat is easily stressed especially with strangers, loud noises & change of environment. He is also being treated for urinary tract infection. Other than this he & the female cat as far as we know are healthy. They had a bad experience in quarantine in Ghuangzhou when we moved to Shanghai 2 years ago.

I'm not sure of the quarantine conditions in Malaysia & worried how they will manage. Is the quarantine period 1 week or 2 weeks? Can we give the cats their own food while they are there? Do they allow visitors?

i dont think the procedures are very rigid if u export it to Peninsular Malaysia, but it's a different case if u export it to Sarawak (East Malaysia).

Still waiting for my cat from KL ... heard the rabbies vaccination cannot be done there and the only place where the blood can be checked is either england and Australia and will cost dearly

You may have to contact the Veterinary Services Department to answer your questions. Basically, there are a few countries which can bypass the quarantine altogether. The others will have to be quarantined a minimum of 1 week. Normally, visitations are allowed and you can provide the food for your cats as well. Most important thing, is to get all the paperwork in order.

Here's the website about importing pets from DVS:

i just brought my cats back to malaysia.
They came from dubai.

Yes you can visit them everyday and bring your own food, litter bowls etc.
if all your documents are in order and all the shots are up to date you can take them home after 7 days.

We also had one very timid cat who was afraid of loud noises.

The first day we went to see them it was a little distressing as the planes were taking off and they were a bit bewildered. It is best if you bring with you on the plane a bed for each of them. The bed should be no more than 1.5ft long give or take a few inches.

They are kept in a normal sized cage in a fairly large airy room.
When you go to visit you are allowed to take them out and play with them.

They will most probably want to hide so along with the bed bring a towel or a nice thick piece of cloth that they can burrow into.

Also take fresh water with you as the water provided is a slightly suspicious color.

They are fed twice a day, their litter is cleaned once a day.

We changed the arrangement of the things in the cage around so that our cats were right next to each other even though they were separated by the bars.

It is hard to leave them there, especially if you are like me and a worrier.... But the 7 days goes by pretty quickly and our cats were back to normal about 48 hours after we brought them home.

we bought some feliway spray to help them adjust to their new environment in quarantine and at home. Highly recommended.

Please check this site;

it has most of the details you are looking for and you can download the forms as well.

Good luck!

What do you mean whe you cay that the vaccination can't be done in malaysia?
We exported our cats to dubai and the vaccination for rabies was given in malaysia. There is a websiet dedicated to importing cats to UK somewhere on the net. They should be able to tell you the details.
