|
|
Hi many gurus,
I have a 7-months poodle mix.
I bathe him once a week with shampoo......I also got apply shampoo to his head and near his mouth. It's that ok ?
I heard from a fren say only bathe him once a month with shampoo.....once a week with plain water....is it ?
I jus use pipe water to bathe him most of the times, under hot sun. Can ?
Thanks |

What you are doing is alright. When you apply shampoo to the face, make sure it doesn't go into the eyes or mouth (and make sure he doesn't eat it). Or else you could wipe the face with a damp cloth.
Bathing any more than once a week may cause him to have dry fur and skin. Bathing with shampoo will remove all its natural oils on the skin, therefore making it dry. These oils are the ones that will help make the coat more shiny too. If he does not get dirty that often, its possible to bathe him one a month too. |

| And be careful of getting heat stroke when you leave him under the hot sun for too long (it can be as short as 10-15 minutes too!). I myself prefer bathing them when the sun is out, but must make sure they got access to shelter at all times to stay out of the sun. |

Thanks Dr. Nat.
He does not get dirty very much but got the odour.
What do u think if i bathe him once a week but apply shampoo fortnightly ?
Under sun while bathing, after done, I take him indoor to wipe.
And one more thing: When I leash him and he tries to run....the leash will strangle his neck but not too hard. he will feel very uncomfortable and cough cough....is it his throat too sensitive ?
Thanks |

| Depends on the nature of the cough. Sometimes coughing is a sign of a throat infection or inflammation. If the cough persists, even without using the choke chain, then consult a vet. Otherwise, you may want to use something more comfortable, like a chest harnest. |

In fact, I only chain him while bathing. For other occasions, I never chain him as I did not bring him out for walk. When I start bringing him to go out for walk,I will buy chest harnest.
He only cough when pressure applied to his neck/throat. Like pull by the leash or I pat his neck with greater force than usual.....May b his throat is on the sensitive side.
thanks a lot. |

| If you're worried, you could bring your dog for a check to rule out any medical possibilities for that cough. |
