If i bring her swim 4 times a week, does it mean she bath 4 times already? please advise. thank you. 8) |

| I heard from my vet that its only advisable to bathe dogs once a week. (Thats bathing) Too often would cause dry skin/rash , rip its natural oil out and unheathy looking dry coat. |

When we say "bath", it means using shampoo. Because its the shampoo that removes all the natural oils that the skin produces (and dirt too). So, by removing the natural oils, the skin loses its natural protectant. Also, the oils is the one that makes its fur shine. Removing too much oil, i.e. bathing it too frequently can cause it to have dry haircoat.
Swimming is not equavalent to bathing. So, if you bring your dog swimming, make sure that the water is clean. If the water is dirty, then you may have to bathe your dog after swimming. Certain dog breeds have a natural haircoat suitable for swimming. It prevents the water from reaching into the inner layer of fur. If I'm not mistaken, dogs like Labradors and Golden Retrievers have that. Thats why they are also "water dogs", other dogs hate water. |

| Thats the idea. Just a little wipe, and the fur dries easily. The GR should have a thick undercoat. This is the one that prevents water from reaching their skin. But of course, the thick undercoat or "water resistant" part is the breed standard. If your dog was produced by a "back-yard breeder" who don't care about breed standards, then chances are that your dog might not be as water-resistant as you'd like. |
